THE 4 ESSENTIAL POINTS DEVELOPED IN THE COUNCIL OF MINISTERS

Here are the 4 points to remember from the reading carried out by the Government Spokesperson, Amadou Moustapha Ndieck Sarré, concerning the President’s decisions.

1-Refoundation of the public sector

Concerning this crucial point, the President of the Republic first returned to the need to have a modern and digital administration in order to improve public services. This is how Bassirou Diomaye Faye welcomed the holding for the first time of the conference of public administrators and managers. An event which brought together public sector leaders. The objective was clear: to think about ways and means to make administrations more efficient and closer to citizens. As a result, it will be able to deliver results.

According to President Diomaye Faye, there is a priority to reform the public service “for more transparent and efficient management, the establishment of performance contracts for public companies so that they function better and contribute more to our economy, and finally the digitalization of public services which will allow everyone to have easier access to rapid and reliable procedures, wherever they are in Senegal.”

2-Private sector development

Secondly, the President of the Republic insisted on the development of the private sector. Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who notes its importance in job creation and economic growth, hopes that this sector “will become a powerful lever for our development. To do this, the government is working with manufacturers and investors to build a policy adapted to economic realities.” It is in this sense that “the Invest in Senegal forum which will be held in April 2025, will show the whole world that Senegal is a destination of choice for investments”. And to reveal that the ambition is to mobilize 5,600 billion CFA francs in the national and international private sectors between 2025 and 2029 in order to finance projects which will have a direct impact on the lives of Senegalese people.

3-Relaunch and development of the tourism sector

Furthermore, we have the revival and development of the tourism sector, an essential vector for Senegal. Bassirou Diomaye Faye therefore wants to revitalize this sector by creating 500,000 jobs by 2050. “To achieve this, several actions are planned: promote our natural and cultural heritage, promote our tourist destinations to attract more foreign visitors, and secure our tourist areas by strengthening the tourist police.” To this end, an interministerial meeting will soon take place to define priority measures with a view to relaunching this strategic sector.

4-Modernization of markets and commercial spaces

Finally, the President of the Republic addressed the modernization of markets and commercial spaces. Concerned by fires and insecurity in the markets, Bassirou Diomaye Faye calls for an in-depth review of the Market Modernization Program. “The objective is simple: secure and modernize these places essential to the local economy. In addition, the government is working on solutions to optimize the use of the Diamniadio Exhibition Center and modernize the CICES so that they become more efficient and profitable infrastructures,” he assures.
