Barcelona confirming a return to Camp Nou will not happen before May 2025

JAKARTA – Barcelona has confirmed that it will not return to Camp Nou before May 2025 as renovation work on the club’s stadium continues.

This means they have the potential to finish the season at the Stade Olympique Luis Companis, where they have played since the Camp Nou overhaul began in the summer of 2023.

Barcelona finished the La Liga campaign with matches against Real Madrid (11 May 2025) and Villarreal (18 May 2025).

The announcement on Friday 17 January 2025, that they will continue to play at Olympique Cloues Companies at least until 23 April 2025, when they host Mallorca, means they are committed to playing all their remaining Champions League matches there.

UEFA regulations allow the stadium to be changed after the group stage, but teams are not permitted to use some venues during the group stage.

Barcelona had initially hoped to return to action at Camp Nou in November 2024, to coincide with the club’s 125th anniversary, as part of a gradual return.

The Catalan club revealed that in November 2024 there was a delay until at least January 2025. However, in December 2024, they said the club was working internally on the possibility of him not returning to Camp Nou until next season.

Progress on rebuilding and modernizing the field was slow because more work was needed on the second level than initially planned.

Meanwhile, the stadium will take up to three months to be properly installed to ensure it reaches the standard required to host elite football. The process will begin in February 2025.

When Barcelona finally returns to Camp Nou, the initial attendance will be limited to around 60,000 as work continues.

The stadium is expected to be fully completed in the summer of 2026, with capacity increased to around 105,000, the highest capacity in Europe.
