Kompany and Bayern receive lessons in efficiency from Feyenoord (3 shots on target, 3 goals): “They took their moments”
The football logic turned upside down in Rotterdam yesterday. Some figures: Bayern had 80% ball possession, 30 goal attempts, 6 shots on goal, 13 corners, 736 passes. Feyenoord shot on target 3 times, had 1 corner and made 192 passes. But the Dutch still won 3-0. Bayern coach Vincent Kompany responded sportingly: “I think Feyenoord deserved the win.”
It couldn’t be more efficient: Jimenez twice before half-time and Ueda at the end completed Feyenoord’s chances between the posts at 100 percent.
“We have to be honest,” Vincent Kompany responded at the press conference afterwards: “I think Feyenoord deserved it. Not because we didn’t fight for it. We ran a lot and gave everything, but we also felt that they could be dangerous at certain times. And they make excellent use of those moments.”
Although our compatriot could not ignore the numbers: “We had a lot of chances today, I thought we could have scored 2 goals, maybe even more.”
Bayern Munich had 9 big chances, including Sane’s header onto the post. And home goalkeeper Bijlow had a great day. “We probably could have done more in the last 10 minutes,” the coach realized.
“But the moments when Feyenoord played and scored were not a big surprise. You could feel that during the match.”
“It was just not enough individually and collectively. We are used to playing against such teams and often find a solution, but today our performance was not good enough.”
“The only thing that plays in our favor is that we are playing again in 3 days. That is the best: that we can respond immediately on the field.”

-Bayern is not yet sure of the top 8 in the League Phase, which includes a direct ticket to the 1/8th finals of the Champions League. The 9th to the 24th can go to the jump-offs.
Bayern is 15th after yesterday. “We are not afraid of the jump-offs. If we have to play them, we will play them. You have to earn your place in the top 8.”
“This new format was created to create tension. And there is tension. The outcome is not good for us today, but we still have 1 match.”
“The most important thing for me is that we continue to win a lot of games and we will do that.”
Bayern will host Slovan Bratislava next week. This season the champions’ ball is extra special for the Germans: after all, the final is in their own stadium.
“We will give everything to make that dream come true,” Kompany said upon his appointment in Munich last summer.
