Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer won his first match in charge of Besiktas on Wednesday, beating Athletic Bilbao 4-1 in the Europa League.
Solskjaer was named as the Black Eagles’ new boss on Saturday; his first job since being dismissed by United in 2021.
Seventeen minutes into the Norwegian’s first game, winger Milo Rashica gave the hosts the lead from Rafa Silva’s pass.
Unai Gomez equalised with a left-footed finish, but Rashica’s second and a close-range effort from Rafa Silva put Besiktas firmly in control in Istanbul.
A late Joao Mario penalty put the result beyond doubt, inflicting Bilbao’s first Europa League defeat of 2024-25.
-Besiktas are now 18th in the standings, before Thursday’s matches and the final round of league stage fixtures next week.
The top eight clubs qualify for the knockouts automatically, with those who finish between ninth and 24th going into the play-offs.
