Two American players have sealed their berth into the UEFA Champions League knockout phase.
Cameron Carter-Vickers and Auston Trusty both played 90 minutes apiece as Celtic defeated Swiss side Young Boys 1-0 in Glasgow on Wednesday. The result gives Brendan Rodgers’ squad 12 points through seven matches, which at least guarantees them a spot in the playoff round.
Teams ranked No. 1-8 after Matchday 8 will qualify for the Round of 16 while teams ranked No. 9-16 will advance to a two-legged playoff series. Celtic is currently ranked No. 18 in the 36-team standings and cannot be caught by Manchester City, who is the team just outside of the Top-24.
A Benito own goal in the 86th minute broke the deadlock at Celtic Park, giving the Scottish Premiership leaders a late lead that they would not throw away.

Unbeaten in its last six matches, Celtic will host Dundee FC in SPFL action on Saturday before traveling to Aston Villa on January 29 in its league phase finale.
