With just one game left in this phase, Inter, Atalanta, Milan and Juventus are all at least guaranteed a play-off place, but four are close to securing direct access to the Champions League Round of 16.
The new format of the competition has eight games in this league phase, with all the results going into a single large table.
The top eight will go directly into the Round of 16, while the teams from 9-24 in the standings enter play-offs in February.
With only one match left to be played, four of the five Italian sides are already guaranteed a top 24 finish and therefore at least play-off access, while Bologna already know that they will be eliminated.
Only Liverpool and Barcelona are sure of direct access to the Champions League Round of 16.
However, there are three Italians in the top eight at the moment, namely Inter, Atalanta and Milan.
Inter only need one point against AS Monaco at San Siro to be sure of a place in the top eight, where Milan can guarantee it with a victory away to Dinamo Zagreb.
-Atalanta face a trickier trip to Barcelona, but with the knowledge the Blaugrana are already through and therefore might be less motivated.
Juventus need to win their final match at home to Benfica and hope that other results go their way, but the odds of them being any higher than ninth are very slim.
All the remaining matches will be played simultaneously at 20.00 GMT on Wednesday January 29.
There will then be the draw for the play-offs on Friday January 31.
