How a stunt victory against Bayern Munich in the Champions League can create mixed feelings? Just ask Brian Priske (ex-Antwerp). Just before kick-off the news came from Denmark that this would be his last match as Feyenoord’s coach. Only: who among the Dutch would have thought that they would score 3-0 against Vincent Kompany’s machine?

“This is Brian Priske’s last game.”

A few minutes before Feyenoord’s Champions League match against Bayern Munich, striking news filtered in from Denmark. Although the ex-Antwerp coach simply stood side-by-side with Vincent Kompany on the sideline, the sword of Damocles hung proverbially above his head.

Would you like to end in style?

Yes, it was a somewhat strange image, but at minute 21 Priske and his staff went crazy when Gimenez surprisingly scored the 1-0 for Feyenoord. The striker dived into the back of Bayern’s defense and exposed the team’s lingering pain point.

And as if the devil was involved for Bayern afterwards, things went painfully wrong for Bayern again just before half-time. Kompany had just brought on Guerreiro for an injured Davies, but the same Guerreiro immediately committed a penalty foul. A piece of cake for Gimenez: 2-0.

After that, Bayern dominated again and created a lot of chances, but Feyenoord goalkeeper Bijlow had an absolute miracle evening. With a handful of saves he delivered the verdict: no goals for Bayern today, which loses precious points in the battle for the top 8.

And Priske, she ends on a beautiful note, right? When Ueda scored the final score (3-0) in the very last minute, the coach went crazy again.

They won’t take this away from him anymore, or will they?

“I haven’t heard anything yet,” the Dane said honestly after the match. “In my head I am still the coach of Feyenoord. I do my job every day.”

“Have I already spoken to the board? Yes, but to exchange congratulations. I am proud of my team and I especially want to talk about that now. Now is not the right time to draw attention to me,” it sounded grand.
