But coach Vincent Kompany’s team didn’t just have to cope with blows in the neck in the first round. There was also bitter news from Rotterdam from an injury perspective.

Shortly before the break, Alphonso Davies sank to the ground without any outside influence and grabbed his back thigh. The Canadian immediately indicated: It couldn’t go any further!

Raphaël Guerreiro came on for him in stoppage time in the first half. The Portuguese stood on the soaked turf at “De Kuip” for less than 80 seconds and his first action caused a penalty, which made it 2-0 for the Dutch.

Particularly bitter: Davies had only made his comeback shortly before Christmas after a small muscle fiber tear in his thigh. At that time, the left-back had only missed one game. Now the 24-year-old is in danger of being out for a longer period of time again.
