This Wednesday was marked by the holding of the weekly Council of Ministers chaired by the Head of State, Bassirou Diomaye Faye. The Government Spokesperson, Amadou Moustapha Ndieck Sarré, presented the four main decisions taken by the President during this session.
-Refoundation of the public sector
President Bassirou Diomaye Faye stressed the importance of a modern and digital administration to improve the quality of public services. He welcomed the first conference of public administrators and managers, an event which brought together leaders of the sector to discuss ways to make administrations more efficient and closer to citizens. The Head of State specified that civil service reform is essential to guarantee more transparent and efficient management. Among the priorities, he mentioned the establishment of performance contracts for public companies and the digitalization of public services in order to facilitate procedures for citizens, wherever they are.
-Private sector development
Private sector development was another key point addressed by the President. Bassirou Diomaye Faye recalled its essential role in job creation and economic growth, stressing that the government works in close collaboration with industrialists and investors to develop an economic policy adapted to the realities of the country. He announced that the “Invest in Senegal” forum, scheduled for April 2025, will aim to attract global investments and make Senegal a preferred destination for investors. The objective is to mobilize 5,600 billion CFA francs in the private sectors between 2025 and 2029 to finance projects with a strong impact on the lives of Senegalese people.
-Relaunch and development of the tourism sector
The President also placed emphasis on the revival of the tourism sector, a key sector for the Senegalese economy. The objective is to create 500,000 jobs by 2050. To do this, several measures are planned, such as promoting the country’s natural and cultural heritage, promoting tourist destinations to attract more foreign visitors, and strengthening security in tourist areas with the creation of a dedicated tourist police. An interministerial meeting will soon be organized to define the priority actions to be implemented, reports Le Soleil.
-Modernization of markets and commercial spaces
Finally, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye addressed the issue of modernizing markets and commercial spaces. Aware of recurring problems such as fires and insecurity in these places, he called for an in-depth review of the Market Modernization Program. The objective is to secure and modernize these spaces essential to the local economy. The government also plans to modernize the Diamniadio Exhibition Center and the CICES so that they become more efficient and profitable infrastructures.
These decisions show the government’s desire to strengthen the efficiency of key sectors of the Senegalese economy and improve the daily lives of citizens.
