A dolphin found dead in Cancale: “It is not part of the group saved from stranding

A resident of Cancale made the discovery during his morning walk. At daybreak, Thierry Huck discovered a dead dolphin on the shore, below the tide pool, in Cancale (Ille-et-Vilaine). “I immediately notified the city services,” he relates. The body of the dolphin was taken care of by the Al Lark association and was transferred to the Labocea veterinary laboratory in Ploufragan for an autopsy.

“He has no injuries”

Four days after a massive stranding of fifteen common dolphins near an oyster farm at the port of La Houle in Cancale (Ille-et-Vilaine), released at sea by the Al Lark association and the firefighters, the fear of a new stranding was real. Was this dolphin part of the colony? “According to the photo, it’s impossible. This stranded dolphin shows no trace of scars, whereas the dolphins we rescued struggled and surely bear traces of cuts,” explains Morgane Perri, marine biologist for the association.

Strandings in Côtes-d’Armor

It is therefore an isolated animal. The association has noted several strandings in recent days. Sunday January 19 and Monday January 20, two dolphins ran aground in Côtes-d’Armor. “It was not, either, the members of the colony which ran aground on Friday in Cancale. In recent days, the wind regime has changed and disrupted the navigation of the animals by bringing them back to the coast. formulates as a hypothesis Morgane Perri.
