A wind of change is blowing over the French League of Legends League for 2025: new format, shaken teams and international stars arriving. Who will do well in this unprecedented landscape of the LFL?
Did you think that the French esports scene was going to rest on its laurels in 2025? This was without counting on the French League of Legends League (LFL) which intends to shake up the codes this year! New competition format, sensational arrivals, surprise departures… The season is already shaping up to be exciting.
A new format to spice up the competition
Exit the spring and summer format, make way for a preliminary tournament at the start of the season called the “Flash-in”. From January 22 to February 27, the 10 LFL teams will compete to try to win one of the two qualifying places for the winter EMEA Masters. Enough to put the teams straight into the mix and offer fans high-stakes matches from the start of the season.
But the novelties don't stop there. Throughout the year, clashes will be governed by the “Fearless” format: in each round, a selected champion will become banned until the end of the match. Here's something to spice up the picks/bans and force players to step out of their comfort zone!
Vitality and KCorp rely on experience
The LFL off-season transfer window has its share of surprises in store. At Vitality Bee, we saw the big picture by recruiting two former LEC: the midlaner Vetheowithout a team for a year, and the experienced jungler Kadir « Fleshy » Bonelesswinner of the LFL in 2024 with Karmine Corp. The potential is there to aim for the national title!
Exactly, what about Karmine Corp? After seeing its workforce being plundered, the structure set its sights on safe values, like the midlaner Thomas « Exakick » Foucouback in LFL after a mixed stint in LEC. He will be supported by the promising South Korean jungler Jung-hun ” Piero ” Kim. If the individuals are there, it remains to create solid team chemistry.
Solary and Gentside natural suitors
Behind the two favorites, several ambitious teams intend to say a few words to them. This is the case of Solary, which hit hard on the transfer market by attracting two former LEC,Mark “Markoon” van Woensel et Mertai « Mersa » Sari. Enough to allow the structure to aim for qualification for the EMEA Masters for the first time in its history.
Same ambition declared on the side of Gentside, carried by the veteran quadruple champion of France Jérémy « Eika » Valdenaire. To support him, the Garnets attracted the Greek star Markos “Comp” Stamkopoulosformer quarter-finalist of the Worlds. With such a duo, Gentside can legitimately dream of a title.
-Three new kids full of promise
Who says new season also says new stables! There are three of them to appear in the LFL this year and not the least. We will be closely monitoring IciJaponCorp, the well-crafted project of YouTuber Tev, which has attracted regional big names into its net such as Sertuss or the Korean duo Howling/Hans SamD.
Joblife, led by the charismatic streamer Tomy, will be keen to get his army of supporters talking for his first year in the elite. With a young and uninhibited team, a top 6 is within reach for the French newcomer.
Finally, the surprise could come from Galions, the Ile-de-France project led by the videographer Sixen. By recruiting former LFL winners like Jezu, Ragner or Zoelys, Galions intends to tickle the hierarchy established in its first season.
GameWard and BDS under reconstruction
Not all the lights are green, however, for GameWard, one of the rare teams without a headliner. The White Wolves will have to count on the talent of their Korean promise Zest to do well in this very tough LFL.
Reigning champions, the BDS Academy are starting from almost one white sheet after watching their team get plundered during the offseason. With an inexperienced team, the Swiss will have to work hard to hope to reach the top 6 and the playoffs.
An undecided season
With so many changes and a level that promises to be more homogeneous than ever, it is very difficult to establish a hierarchy at the start of the LFL season. One thing is certain: the show and the twists and turns will be there! Hostilities begin this Wednesday, book your evenings…
