Brive: a naked man shot dead by police after threatening passers-by with a knife

Brive city center closed off. A man died this Wednesday afternoon after threatening to stab passers-by in the city, while he was naked in public, according to information from La Montagne confirmed to Le Parisien by a police source.

The incident occurred early this Wednesday afternoon, when the man was seen entering, naked, the grounds of the Saint-Martin collegiate church in Brive. Then armed with a knife, he appeared towards the altar of the church and hit himself with his weapon, prompting witnesses to raise the alarm.

According to a police source, the man had already been seen earlier threatening to stab passers-by in the center of the Corrèze town. He had then just left his vehicle, which was stolen.

Law enforcement officers responded to the scene, first attempting to subdue the man using a taser, without success. The police then had to fire to subdue the individual, according to a source close to the case. The man, aged 40 according to La Montagne, died as a result of the shots.
