Iga Świątek's concert is underway! The Pole will play in the semi-finals of the Australian Open

Seven years ago, Iga Świątek and Emma Navarro faced each other as part of the ITF World Tour competition on clay courts in Charleston, where during 49 minutes of play, the Pole gave up only two games to the American (6:0, 6:2). On Wednesday, both tennis players met in the quarterfinals of the Grand Slam Australian Open 2025. Our representative was the favorite and after 89 minutes she won 6:1, 6:2.

Świątek quickly got to work. Already in the first game she triggered a return and broke through to zero. She wanted to start the match well and let her opponent know that she had a hell of a task ahead of her. Navarro is a tennis player who relies on consistency. By playing aggressively, you can easily take the initiative on the court.

The 23-year-old from Raszyn had no problem with this on Wednesday. She quickly moved up to 2-0, after which the American won her serve. As it turned out, this was the only gem she won in the premiere. When Świątek found her rhythm, her opponent could not feel safe with her own pass. And this is regardless of the result of the game.

With a 3-1 lead, Świątek attacked again on the return and was rewarded. Navarro fought off two break points, but on the third one the Pole forced her to make a mistake and achieved her goal. After changing sides, our representative did not wait any longer. First, she kept the serve at 5:1, and then pressed the return again. The eighth racket in the world lost her serve for the third time, although she was already leading 40-0 in the game. The first set, which lasted 35 minutes, ended with a score of 6:1 for the favorite.

The second game had a different course. Navarro reached a high level, which Świątek felt in the exchanges. In the first games of the set, it was not so easy to crush her opponent's resistance. What's more, the American made a break point after 2, and only the Polish woman's patient play allowed her to avoid a break.

The fifth game ended in a small controversy. The WTA ranking runner-up played a ball that bounced twice on her side. In the heat of the fight, our tennis player did not notice this, nor did the main referee, Eva Asderaki-Moore. Navarro had a different opinion on this, but the referee did nothing.

In any case, Świątek moved up to 3:2 and then attacked on the return. After a few nice exchanges, she managed to get a break point. A great backhand down the line gave her a valuable break. Then the Pole kept the serve until 40 and went up 5:2. After the change of sides, the five-time Grand Slam champion didn't wait any longer. She pressed the return again and used the second match ball.

Świątek scored 67 of 112 points on Wednesday. The Pole recorded one ace, two double faults, 22 finishing strokes and 20 errors. Moreover, she was not broken even once, and she managed to get five breaks herself. Navarro's statisticians recorded one ace and a double fault. The American finished 15 balls and had 22 unforced errors.

Swiatek, seeded number two, will play in the semi-finals of the international Australian championship for the second time in her career. In 2022, she did not meet the American Danielle Collins at this stage. This time she will meet her compatriot Madison Keys. Their fight will take place on Thursday at Rod Laver Arena.
