The Executive Chairman, Edo State Sports Commission, Amadin Desmond Enabulele, has congratulated the Nigeria U-19 Cricket Team on its historical two-run victory over New Zealand at the ICC Women’s U-19 Cricket World Cup in Malaysia.
The Nigeria Junior Female Yellow Greens stunned the cricketing world with the remarkable victory on Monday, after beating one of the tournament’s favourites in a match delayed for two hours due to heavy rainfall.
The Edo Sports Commission boss described the victory as a monumental achievement which deserves national recognition and honour.
Amadin said, “ We never had it so good that we beat one of the tournament’s favourites at the world stage.This victory goes down in history as one of the biggest gains in sports in our country that have happened under the present administration
“We in Edo are very happy and congratulate our Under-19 women’s cricket team; the coaches, players and the National Cricket Federation president, Uyi Akpata who have brought honour to their father’s land.
“This calls for celebration and national recognition of those who made it possible.
“The Nigeria Cricket Federation under its President, Uyi Akpata, has been consistent with hard work and unbiased selection of players has also contributed to the development and popularity of the game in Edo State which has about nine players in the victorious team
-“This result will further encourage us to invest more in the development of cricket in Edo State. We are proud of the team, and we are proud of you Akpata.”
The Nigerian girls are playing table toppers South Africa today in the last game of group C and hope to qualify for the super six stage.
Three teams are expected to qualify from each Group and form two groups of six teams
From 4 groups of 4 Teams each to two groups of 6 teams each which will later be pruned to Super 4, which is the semi finals.
