End of life: François Bayrou wants to split the text, but attracts the wrath of Yaël Braun-Pivet: News

Facing the deputies of the presidential EPR party, the Prime Minister indicated, Tuesday January 21, that he wanted to separate the bill on support for the sick and the end of life into two texts. An unacceptable proposal for Yaël Braun-Pivet who publicly stated his disagreement.

Interrupted following the dissolution of the National Assembly by Emmanuel Macron, the bill relating to support for the sick and the end of life should make its return to discussions between parliamentarians from January 27. For the Prime Minister, the two subjects should be split. A proposal with which the President of the Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, says she “strongly disagree”she assures in the columns of RMC Tuesday January 21.

Separate the two subjects so as not to oppose them?

That same day, the Prime Minister, who addressed the elected representatives of the Together for the Republic (EPR) group, put forward his proposal for two separate texts, one for the end of life, the other for palliative care . For him it is a matter of not “not pit one against the other but leave freedom to everyone”according to comments reported by a participant. For some in the government, the question could be the subject of a referendum, but at the risk of the debate being seized by conservative associations.

For Yaël Braun-Pivet, who is “strongly disagree” with François Bayrou's proposal, the two subjects cannot be dissociated. “How do we support people at the end of their lives? It’s the same subject. I don’t need to repeat it, he knows it, I’ve already told him”she indicated, thus underlining her disagreement with the executive.
