The night at La Cerámica began with enthusiasm for an RCD Mallorca that was quickly overwhelmed by a very effective Villarreal, who managed to unevent the score with four goals, leaving the team without the ability to respond in the first half.
First part
Villarreal’s first goal came in the 20th minute after a corner taken with precision by Logan Costa. Just five minutes later, Baena took advantage of a counterattack to increase the lead, while Parejo also joined in to score another one. Yéremy Pino also scored a fourth goal before halftime.
Second part
Jagoba Arrasate’s team tried to react, but the confusion was evident. Despite the efforts of Robert Navarro, who sought to penetrate from the wing, and Muriqi, who missed a clear header opportunity, Mallorca’s actions failed to translate into a goal.
Jagoba changed several players in search of a reaction. Copete, Mateu Morey, Robert Navarro and Antonio Sánchez came on, but the team couldn’t find a way to get back into the game. In the final minutes, Mojica came close to scoring, first with a direct free kick that went into the corner and then with a shot from the edge of the area that narrowly missed.
