Live: Donald Trump sworn in as 47th President of the United States

Eight years after his first inauguration, Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on Monday shortly after 12:00 p.m. local time (6:00 p.m. Belgian time). He thus becomes the second American president in history to serve two non-consecutive terms.

Donald Trump is also the first American president to be the subject of legal convictions. JD Vance was also sworn in as the 50th vice president of the United States just before. Among the guests at the inauguration ceremony were billionaires Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, but also foreign heads of state and government, such as Argentine President Javier Milei and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

Before the ceremony, Donald Trump and his wife Melania went to St John’s Church, just across the street from the White House, for a religious service. They were then received at the White House by outgoing US President Joe Biden for a courtesy interview.

The ceremony, which was initially scheduled to take place in front of the Capitol in Washington, was held inside the Congressional complex due to the freezing cold.
