Major winter storm expected Tuesday

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – A significant winter storm is expected to impact the area on Tuesday bringing accumulating snow and causing major travel disruptions.

Today is the last day to prep for this storm and the weather will be nice considering. Highs will be in the low 40s with wind chills in the 30s but sunshine will dominate through the day. a

Be ready to shelter in place starting tonight as the winter storm will move in quickly around daybreak Tuesday. Heavy snow will pick up through Tuesday morning with snow lasting the day. Multiple inches of accumulations are expected.

After the storm conditions will worsen as we hard freeze Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, lows will dip into the middle teens on the north shore and low 20s south of the lake. This will create an icy mess all across the area Wednesday morning and be a pipe-busting freeze.

Estimating how much melting will occur on Wednesday even with the sunshine is tough. Due to the possibility, the roads don’t clear that day – be ready to not leave your home until Thursday at the earliest.
