LIST: Shelters open on the First Coast with winter storm on the way

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The city of Jacksonville Emergency Preparedness Division is monitoring weather conditions this week.

The city warns of icy roads and urges residents to drive with caution, pay attention to their surroundings and potential roadway hazards.

Wind chill temperatures in the lower to mid-20s are also expected on Monday morning. This dangerous cold weather outbreak with “feels like” temperatures in the 20s is expected to last through Thursday, according to a city press release.

Libraries and community centers will reopen starting Tuesday during regular business hours and serve as warming centers across Jacksonville

JTA buses will provide free transport to individuals heading to warming centers, which will be staffed and have water available onsite. Residents using warming centers should bring their own bedding, snacks, medications, entertainment and hygiene items.

The following warming centers will be open the next few days:

Sunday 9 p.m.- Monday 9 a.m. (Overnight)

Monday 11 a.m.- 6 p.m. (Daytime)

In response to the National Weather Service’s forecast of a rare and severe winter storm impacting our region, Camden County officials are proactively establishing a Warming Center to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents.

Camden County Recreation Center, 1050 Wildcat Drive in Kingsland is open overnight from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m., starting Sunday, Jan. 19 and continuing as needed based on weather conditions.

Bethune Gym at 204 Mary Bethune Drive, Folkston

Hours: 3 p.m. Tuesday- 10 a.m. Wednesday

The Well at 1101 Gloucester St., Brunswick

6:30 p.m. Sunday-Monday night 8:30 a.m.
