Leaving X is a matter of “cowardice” and “pretension”, for Isabelle Saporta

Everyone is predicting devastating repercussions from Donald Trump's inauguration. In geopolitical relations, with the ceasefire in Gaza, perhaps awaiting that in Ukraine or the improbable annexation of Greenland. In the economic field with a huge increase in customs tariffs. In that of innovation with the shift of the American continent into artificial intelligence and the conquest of space.

And while the United States shapes our future, what do our French politicians propose? A big technological plan? Economic ? No, no. They just want to leave social network X! And each of our politicians goes there with their clumsy blundersto announce to the richest man in the world and owner of X, Elon Musk, that because of him, he or she is leaving the social network.

How to word it without being unpleasant? I'm not sure that these departures are likely to shake Muskno more than the injunctions to ban X. In short, the Americans invent, we ban or we regulate.

No to separatism

Do we desert the battlefield when we are not sure of winning? Are we excluding ourselves from a global agora that allows us to support magnificent struggles like those of Iranian women?

I only see two reasons for this desertion. The first is cowardice. The second, the pretension. Deep down our politicians are convinced that all those who do not think like them do not deserve to be exchanged with them. And to turn their backs on them, playing the good role, they accuse them of conspiracy theorists. But to be a society is to respect each other, not to resemble each other.

So, what’s the next step? Today we leave X, and tomorrow our neighborhood for fear of being confronted with neighbors who do not share our ideas? To better group together where we are sure to find people who think like us? Americans are already engaging in this separatism. Let me find that appalling.

So rather than imitating the United States in what it does worst, what if we copied it in what it does best, that is, building the future?
