Hundreds of Palestinians in the town of Beitunia in the middle of the occupied West Bank celebrated the release of dozens of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prisons, as part of the first phase of the prisoner exchange deal concluded by Hamas and Israel.
Despite Israeli harassment and warnings, hundreds of Palestinians gathered in front of buses of prisoners in Beitunia, west of the city of Ramallah, coming from the Israeli Ofer prison, setting off fireworks and chanting to celebrate the liberation of the prisoners.
On Sunday/Monday night, the Israeli authorities released dozens of Palestinian prisoners, including women and children, from Ofer Prison, west of Ramallah, as part of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, which entered into force on Sunday morning after it was reached through mediation by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States. .
While the buses of prisoners arrived in Beitunia and from there to other areas in the West Bank, a number of Jerusalemite prisoners arrived directly to their homes in the city of Jerusalem, where Palestinian human rights organizations confirmed the publication of the names of 90 prisoners, including 20 children and boys, who were included in the first phase of the agreement.
-In the vicinity of the prison on the Beitunia side (a Palestinian town located between Jerusalem and Ramallah), the Israeli army declared the area near the prison a closed military zone and prohibited the gathering of prisoners’ families, according to an Anadolu News Agency correspondent.
Dozens of families of the released prisoners gathered near the prison, waiting for their liberated families, and were subjected to gas bombs fired by the Israeli army.
