Video Wout van Aert has continued to prepare for the new road season in Spain over the past two weeks, but the Belgian from Visma | Lease a Bike will also participate twice on the cross bike. Today Van Aert is participating in the Benidorm World Cup and he seems to be the big favorite for victory.

After all, Van Aert won his last two crosses before his internship period – in Gullegem and Dendermonde – and was already the best in Benidorm, Spain last year. How does the 30-year-old rider feel after two weeks of suffering under the Spanish sun? “The legs feel okay. It was an intensive internship with many training hours, but I had a good rest day yesterday. So that should not be an excuse,” he told, among others, after his exploration CyclingFlits.
Van Aert decided to include an extra reconnaissance lap in the hours before the cross. “It’s a fast lap and then it pays to drive around again. It is a conscious choice to ride the cross bike just a little longer.”
-“I expect another exciting final. The course is fast, perhaps even faster than in previous editions. I expect an intense battle,” the three-time world champion looks ahead.
About a (possible) World Cup in Benidorm
Finally, Van Aert also talked about Benidorm’s World Cup ambitions. In 2029 they hope to organize the Cyclo-Cross World Championships in the popular Spanish seaside resort, several sources say CyclingFlits and confirms someone from the organizing committee.
How does Van Aert view these World Cup plans? “It is something very positive that a Spanish organization wants to organize a World Cup. We will remain much too close to Belgium in the coming years. So it would be a nice change. Although I must say that the course could offer a little more for a World Cup,” he believes.
