Brest wins and pushes Rennes into crisis

In difficulty after three consecutive defeats in all competitions, Stade Rennais occupied, before the match, a worrying 14th place in Ligue 1, with only one point ahead of the play-off zone. The year 2025 got off to a bad start for the Rennais, beaten by OM (1-2) on the last day of the first leg, and eliminated in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France on the grounds of Troyes (1 -0). For its part, Brest showed a more encouraging dynamic, with two recent victories: one against OL in the championship (2-1) and the other against Nantes in the Coupe de France (2-1). The Finisterians, solid at home, hoped to continue this momentum before their Champions League match on Wednesday against Shakhtar Donetsk.
