Video After his impressive victory at the National Cyclo-Cross National Championships for professionals, the question arose: should the reigning U23 World Champion – Tibor Del Grosso – not participate in the Elite World Championships this season? The young Dutchman started to have doubts, but has now made the decision. He focuses on the title fight for the promises.
Del Grosso announced this on Sunday CyclingFlitsafter his victory in the U23 World Cup in Benidorm, Spain. “There are some people who ask about it, but the choice is mine. Will I stick to my decision? Yes,” the 21-year-old rider provides clarity about his World Cup participation.
Over de cross in Benidorm
Del Grosso did this after his victory in the Benidorm World Cup. After an exciting match, he was once again in control of the opposition. “Although it was not an easy cross to make a difference. We had to wait until the last round. I rode fairly cautiously, hoping that the rest would make the race more difficult.”
“I didn’t really feel like driving away,” Del Grosso continues. “Guus (van den Eijnden, ed.) rode a good race. He has tried to help me every now and then. In the last lap it was just full throttle.”
Del Grosso was encouraged along the way by the many enthusiastic cyclocross supporters, who traveled en masse to the course in Benidorm. “That’s really cool. I have the feeling that people outside Belgium come for the entire cross day. In Belgium it may be more just for the elite ladies and gentlemen. It’s cool to cycle through so many people.”
