We feel it everywhere this Sunday, January 19 morning. In Oullins, Lyon, Sainte-Foy, Saint-Genis-Laval, Irigny and even Caluire-et-Cuire and Rillieux-la-Pape.
This smell of burning tires, which stings the eyes and throat, is not due to pollution. It came from a large fire, which started during the night at the Suez RV DEEE factory in Saint-Fons, which specializes in the recycling of industrial waste. And against which 50 firefighters and around twenty vehicles as well as private firefighting teams from this installation classified for environmental protection (ICPE) are still fighting.
No health hazard
The Rhône prefecture, however, wants to be reassuring regarding these odors perceptible throughout the Rhône. Several air quality measurements have been carried out in recent hours and no health hazards have been identified.
Furthermore, the fire has so far only caused material damage.
-The firefighters hope to be able to overcome it in the afternoon.
