After 15 months of deadly war in the Gaza Strip, a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas was to come into force this Sunday morning and be followed by the release of hostages, fueling hopes for lasting peace despite a warning from Benjamin Netanyahu. This ceasefire negotiated by Qatar with the help of the United States and Egypt was supposed to come into force at 6:30 a.m. GMT (7:30 a.m. in France).
But the start of this truce did not begin at the scheduled time. At 7:30 a.m., Hamas had not transmitted the expected list of hostages to be released this Sunday, “for technical reasons on the ground.” In the meantime, the Israeli army resumed its bombings in Gaza in the morning, leaving eight people dead and many injured.
Finally, Hamas published shortly before 10 a.m. a list of three Israeli hostages to be released the same day. In the process, Israel announced the entry into force of the ceasefire at 10:15 a.m. (French time). Follow the latest information live.
