Édouard Philippe talks about his hair regrowth

The former Prime Minister suffered from alopecia which turned his hair and beard white before causing him to lose his hair. He returns to this “anything but neutral” episode.

A physical change that is harmless, but not trivial. Former Prime Minister Édouard Philippe, now president of the Horizons party, spoke on Saturday January 18 in the columns of Le Parisien about his hair regrowth, after experiencing alopecia, which caused him to lose his hair.

“Last June, it started to grow back, without treatment or operation. It was funny to me. I feel like I'm reliving my puberty,” smiles the mayor of .

“It turns out that the hair that grows back is black. My daughter said to me: ‘It’s the return of the panda’. And that made her laugh,” laughs the former head of government ( 2017-2020).

“I’m sort of back among the bald,” jokes the man who announced his ambitions for the 2027 presidential election.

“It changes the way you look at yourself.”

Édouard Philippe had already spoken several times about the gradual loss of his hair and beard in recent years. Returning once again to this unusual experience, he admits to having been affected by his alopecia.

“I experienced having this illness which was neither dangerous, nor contagious, nor painful, but visible. Very visible,” he confides.

“Losing all your hair is anything but neutral. It changes your appearance, your face, the way you look at yourself and that others have at you. It's not nothing”, assures the Norman elected official.

A welcomed speech

After speaking publicly about his alopecia, Édouard Philippe said in 2023 that he had received “many expressions of sympathy” on BFM Normandie.

“I explained it once because I thought it had to be done,” explained the former Prime Minister.

In an Ipsos poll for La Tribune published on January 12, on the political figures who “would arouse the most satisfaction if they become President of the Republic”, the mayor of Le Havre came in third position, with 30%. of positive opinions, after Marine Le Pen (34%) and Jordan Bardella (33%).
