The police had to intervene to contain supporters of Stade Rennais who wanted to go down on the pitch, after having turned away the players who came to meet them, following the 2-1 home defeat against Brest.
The atmosphere is getting worse in Rennes. At the end of the 2-1 defeat against Stade Brestois, Saturday January 18 as part of the 18th day of Ligue 1, excesses occurred at Roazhon Park. After the final whistle, the players went to see the kop, but they were harshly pushed back by several dozen angry supporters and taken down to the edge of the pitch.
The Stade Rennais security officer then asked the players to leave and return to the locker room. A few individuals tried to enter the lawn, but they were pushed back by security and then the arrival of the CRS.
Encouragement strike
With 17 points at the end of this Breton derby, Rennes (14th), can be overtaken by Saint-Étienne (16th) or Nantes (15th) who are only one length away and face each other on Sunday.
-“From tomorrow a new cycle begins, the real reconstruction of Rennes,” coach Jorge Sampaoli had promised the day before. The new cycle has been postponed with this defeat which will leave regrets in view of the missed opportunities.
The meeting began in a tense atmosphere, with Rennes supporters going on an encouragement strike for half of the first period, the time to unfurl banners castigating managers and players. The Brestois scored a few minutes after the end of this mood, on their first opportunity from Hugo Magnetti.
