Bernardo Ribeiro talks about Sporting star's “tantrum”

Sporting will face Rio Ave in the 18th round of the championship, and one of the biggest doubts for the game is the use of Viktor Gyokeres. The Swedish striker is not 100% and his availability is still uncertain, as stated by Rui Borges. Bernardo Ribeiro believes that the Swede should not go to the game.

“Sporting cannot afford that luxury. Using it in a game against Rio Ave, taking risks to win immediately and lose in the future, actually seems stupid to me.”the director of the Record newspaper began saying, on NOW.

Regarding the striker's condition, Bernardo Ribeiro suggested that it would be wise not to use the player, if there is a risk of worsening the injury. “We'll see if Gyokeres doesn't reach the limit or worsen the situation. Maybe it's a good idea to spare him, I say“, he stated, stressing that, although he does not have access to the biometric data, he knows that the injury occurred after a shot, which could be a sign that the player needs rest.

Asked about the player's possible reaction to being rested, Bernardo Ribeiro was direct: “Of course he could throw a tantrum, but let's be realistic. The coach decides, in this case Rui Borges.” The management of the squad, according to him, must be oriented towards the recovery of the players and the preservation of physical health in the long term, even if this implies some difficulties with the athlete.

Finally, he highlighted the importance of not overloading Gyokeres, considering the impact that premature use could have in the future. “It doesn't make sense to save a player today and then not play five games in a row, as has happened in other cases. If they say he won't play in this game, it's to be available for the next ones. The question is simple: either you can play, or you can't.. If you can't, you don't play, and that's it,” he concluded.
