I’m still somewhat speechless because of what happened yesterday after the hard-fought Bundesliga home win against Borussia Dortmund (2-0). Speechless and touched. Nevertheless, I will try to sort out my emotions and put something on paper here, because I think it’s important. After the three points had been captured, the team was celebrating with the fans in the corner when suddenly a single man, dressed entirely in black, climbed out of the players’ tunnel alone onto the field and went to the team: Omar Marmoush.
Uncanny gratitude
It is now clear that Eintracht’s top scorer will move to Manchester City and bring Eintracht the next utopian amount of money. But that should be completely irrelevant in this comment, because for me the scene that occurred is one of the most beautiful moments I have ever experienced in football. Marmoush warmly hugged each of his celebrating teammates and also his coach and was then pushed in front of the curve by his former team. So there he stood – the changing superstar – in front of the Frankfurt northwest curve. He beat his heart with moist eyes and the fans did the same and a single feeling, a single emotion buzzed noticeably through the stadium: gratitude. The gratitude of the fans that Marmoush gave everything for the club until the last moment and did not let the transfer turn his head. But also gratitude that the Egyptian had the size to say goodbye in person after the game. If the 25-year-old had used his gala evening against SC Freiburg (1 goal, 2 assists) as a farewell and not appeared again yesterday, Friday – no one would have blamed him. But with this performance he ensured that he will remain in the hearts of the people of Hesse forever. But there wasn’t enough gratitude, because it didn’t just come from the fans that evening. Because Marmoush also seemed incredibly grateful. Despite all his professional positions, he was never really convincing. He didn’t leave a lasting impression at either VfL Wolfsburg, St. Pauli or VfB Stuttgart. But in Frankfurt he was accepted, he was given the trust and also the love of the fans. This never seemed to come naturally to the striker and he didn’t forget it to the fans until the last moment. This is one of the reasons why tears must have welled up in the Egyptian’s eyes yesterday.
Götze ennobles Marmoush’s character
And the team also showed how much Marmoush had grown on them. Mario Götze said after the game on the “DAZN” microphone: “Saying farewell to Omar is extraordinary. We all know what we had in him. He is an outstanding character and player and the whole club appreciated that. We are all happy for Omar.” He also indicated that many players will probably keep in touch with him. That’s cohesion! Randal Kolo Muani no longer has any contacts with Frankfurt after his scandalous departure, Marmoush gave the Frenchman a character lesson yesterday Friday evening. I sincerely hope that he doesn’t end up like the Jovics, Silvas or Muanis, who all disappeared into sporting insignificance after leaving Frankfurt. May he really shake up the Premier League and show everyone what kind of footballer he is. Not just sporty, but also human.
-One of the most beautiful Eintracht moments of all time
It was incredibly brave to stand in front of the fans as a player who was changing in the middle of the season. It was also not 100 percent foreseeable that such a touching moment would arise. In the worst case scenario, some fans would have whistled because he would “let the team down” at such a moment. But both the player and all the fans showed great character and made this moment one of the most beautiful football moments in Eintracht history – at least for me. That was an exit with style that is second to none. Bravo Marmoush! Bravo SGE! Bravo fans!
