The Italian won the downhill at her home race for the 4th time. Lara Gut-Behrami comes fourth as the best Swiss woman.
The podium
- 1. Sofia Goggia (ITA) 1:33.95 Minutes
- 2. Kajsa Vickhoff Lie (NOR) +0.42 seconds
- 3. Federica Brignone (ITA) +0.55
Sofia Goggia has once again impressively confirmed her love for Cortina d’Ampezzo. The Italian skilfully measured the risks for once and, after a clean performance with starting number 16, took the lead from Kajsa Vickhoff Lie, who had not been surpassed since she finished second. Goggia put 42 hundredths between herself and the Norwegian. It was also clear that Lara Gut-Behrami would not remain on the podium. This was completed by Federica Brignone, the winner of the second downhill run of the season in St. Anton.
Goggia celebrated her second win of the season after winning the Super-G in Beaver Creek at the start of her comeback. In Cortina she was on top of the podium for the 4th time, having already won the downhill in 2018, 2022 and 2023. There are also 4 more podium places in the 2026 Olympic venue.
The Swiss in the points
- 4. Lara Gut-Behrami +0.72 seconds
- 5. Corinne Suter +0.75
- 19. Delia Durrer +1.60
- 24. Malorie White +1.89
- 30. Priska Ming-Nufer +2.04
The hoped-for first win of the season came to nothing for Gut-Behrami. The Ticino woman gave it full throttle on one of her favorite routes, but at times almost overdid it. Several small errors crept in, which was enough for intermediate place 3. “Every now and then my skis almost disappeared from under my foot,” analyzed the 33-year-old. But after Goggia’s ride it was clear that there would be no podium place for the double world champion from Cortina 2023.
Corinne Suter also had a strong performance on this route a year after her cruciate ligament tear. The woman from Schwyz finished fifth directly behind Gut-Behrami and celebrated her best result of the season. “It took some effort,” she admitted in the SRF interview. But she is now very satisfied.
-Malorie Blanc, the sensational runner-up from St. Anton, paid some lessons on the “Olimpia delle Tofane”, but showed good sections. This made her the fourth best Swiss woman, Delia Durrer ranked 19th. Michelle Gisin didn’t get up to speed at all, the Engelberg native even missed the points. The race is still ongoing.
Vonn’s moment of shock
Lindsey Vonn’s ride with number 31 was eagerly awaited by all drivers – and the American delivered a spectacle. With strong split times, the 40-year-old was only just able to avoid a fall. This after she had a serious fall in the first training session. In 20th place, she still collected points in the 5th race after her comeback.
This is how it continues
There will be another Super-G in the 2026 Olympic venue on Sunday (live on SRF two from 10:55 a.m.). The technicians will be in action on Tuesday when a giant slalom will be run at Kronplatz. The next speed weekend is coming up in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in just a week, where the program will be identical to that in Cortina.
