It had to be a turning point and a turning point it was. Roma takes back the stage at the Olimpico, deservedly beating Genoa at the end of a hard-fought match and bringing themselves back close to the Europe zone. It was the goal of a symbolic man, Stephan El Shaarawy, who replaced the injured Pellegrini at the break and his 300th appearance for the Giallorossi, and Leali’s own goal that decided the match in the second half after the 1-1 draw in the first half.

In the second half, Ranieri plays the El Shaarawy card (in place of the injured Pellegrini) and Roma starts again with more competitive determination. But Genoa also maintained the frenetic pace of the first half and responded blow for blow. Yet it was the former rossoblù El Shaarawy who gave the home team the lead in the 15th minute with a nice right-footed shot to the far post following an assist from the usual Dybala.
