It had to be a turning point and a turning point it was. Roma takes back the stage at the Olimpico, deservedly beating Genoa at the end of a hard-fought match and bringing themselves back close to the Europe zone. It was the goal of a symbolic man, Stephan El Shaarawy, who replaced the injured Pellegrini at the break and his 300th appearance for the Giallorossi, and Leali’s own goal that decided the match in the second half after the 1-1 draw in the first half.

question and answer

In front of over 62 thousand spectators, Ranieri confirmed Pellegrini from the first minute behind Dybala and Dovbyk, while Vieira placed Masini in the control room in place of Badelj. After a shot wide by Saelemaekers at the start, it was Dybala (match number 100 in the Giallorossi) who shook the crossbar and Genoa with a direct free kick from 25 meters in fine style. Well lined up on the pitch, Genoa still managed to restart on the counterattack in the 15th minute with Thorsby serving Zanoni, who did well to find Miretti in the center of the area, but the ex-Juve player’s running conclusion was weak and only tickled Svilar . The Giallorossi pressed and exploited the flanks and found the opening goal thanks to Dovbyk in the 25th minute: on Saelemaekers’ cross from the right Pellegrini finished with his left foot and on Leali’s rebound the Ukrainian broke through and scored ahead of Bani. As in the last match in Bologna, however, the Giallorossi were ahead and conceded a draw within a few minutes: this time it was Masini, in the 34th minute, who surprised Roma on Miretti’s corner kick with an irresistible right-footed volley from the edge of the area. First center in Serie A in his first start.

winning shots

In the second half, Ranieri plays the El Shaarawy card (in place of the injured Pellegrini) and Roma starts again with more competitive determination. But Genoa also maintained the frenetic pace of the first half and responded blow for blow. Yet it was the former rossoblù El Shaarawy who gave the home team the lead in the 15th minute with a nice right-footed shot to the far post following an assist from the usual Dybala. The Grifone reacts immediately with an action orchestrated by Zanoli in the area, then Vieira tries to leave his mark with the entry of Venturino and Ekhator onto the pitch. But it is always Roma who make themselves more dangerous and find the hat trick with an own goal from Leali at the end of an insistent action from Koné and a touch from Dybala in the middle of the area. It is the goal that marks the match and that allows the home team (close to poker in the final credits with Soulé) to collect three points of enormous importance for the rise in the standings after the draw in Bologna. For Genoa and Vieira (13 points in 9 matches) a dignified effort on the path to salvation: the rossoblù team does not lack personality at all.
