“It has to be better, that’s clear”: goalscorer Sven Kums critical of AA Gent’s game against Charleroi

“I’m happy that I was allowed to come on,” Sven Kums began his analysis after the draw against Charleroi. “My goal? I knew I had to check the ball once or it would be blocked. It goes in nicely. Too bad it only yields one point, but I’m happy. We got ourselves into a bit of trouble with that early goal. It was difficult to create chances after the 0-1. It was no longer necessary for Charleroi. In the second half we played a little more offensively. It has to be better, that’s clear. It is insufficient. We defend quite well, but we need to create more chances. That’s where the shoe has been pinching lately.”

Interim coach Daniel Milicevic saw it slightly more positively than Kums. “There was a big difference between the two halves. We brought too little quality and too little movement in the first half. We tried to change that at half time and we also changed the system with the substitutions. We never really became dangerous, so we are not very satisfied, but oh well. The second half was better in a 3-5-2. We’re not losing so it’s not bad either. Sven Kums came in at the age of 36 with the energy of someone much younger. That’s nice to see. I do agree that the results in recent weeks were not good enough. If we want to reach Play-off 1, we have to do better. We have to work harder.” (vva)
