UNITED STATES – It’s a little twist of events a few days before Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony. Scheduled for Monday, it was moved inside the Capitol due to the polar cold expected in Washington, the president-elect announced this Friday, January 17 on his Truth Social network.

The ceremony usually takes place on the steps of the Congress headquarters, but the freezing temperatures predicted Monday in Washington led to it being moved indoors – as for the second inauguration of President Ronald Reagan in 1985, already because of the cold.

“An arctic wind is sweeping the country. Therefore, I have decided that the inauguration speech will be delivered in the rotunda of the Capitol, as for Ronald Reagan in 1985.wrote Donald Trump, who is preparing to experience his second inauguration, eight years after the first. “I don’t want people to suffer or get hurt in any way.”.

Donald Trump will join his supporters later at Capital One Arena, not far from the Capitol, a large hall in the US capital, where the ceremony will be broadcast live. “I will join the crowd at Capital One after my swearing in”wrote the president-elect on his social network. The day will end with the traditional investiture balls.

The memory of the assault on the Capitol

The grandiose hall where the 45th and soon 47th president will take the oath of office is a temple of American political life, decorated with statues of great people and historical paintings. This is where the funeral chapels of deceased presidents are erected.

This is also where supporters of Donald Trump rushed in on January 6, 2021 to try to prevent the certification of Joe Biden's victory, heated by a speech by their champion on a stolen election.

A little more than four years after these incredible scenes, in the same place, Donald Trump will place one hand on a Bible inherited from his mother and raise the other to swear to “protect and defend the Constitution”.
