EXCLUDED VIDEO – Laure Manaudou touching on mental health: “20 years ago, it was not taken into consideration”

Laure Manaudou with an open heart. In the documentary Laura! Laura! Laura!broadcast this Sunday, January 19 at 9 p.m. on CANAL+ and myCANAL, the former French swimmer looks back at length on her journey and the over-media coverage that resulted from it. On the occasion of this news, the sister of Nicolas and Florent Manaudou is the guest ofAs an asidethis Thursday, January 16, on the encrypted channel. “What did you say to yourself? That twenty years after your exploits in Athens, perhaps it was the moment?”, asked Nathalie Levy of the Olympic champion, in an extract that Gala.fr reveals to you exclusively. “I don't think there's ever a good time to say this. It's already a meeting. Laurie (Delhostal, editor’s note) and William (Piou, editor’s note)who made this documentary, these are people I have known for over twenty years, so obviously I felt confident”, underlined Laure Manaudou.

By watching this documentary dedicated to her, the former protégé of Philippe Lucas felt both “proud” et “moved”. “On the one hand, there is a lot of pride and on the other, it makes me a little sad. I'm a little emotional. I didn't expect to be moved like that…”, she admitted, before specifying that the question of the mental health of athletes was not a subject in her time. “Twenty years ago, the mental health of an athlete was not taken into consideration. Today, it's a lot more, so it's great”, she observed, hoping that her experience will be useful to the new generation. “If it can help athletes take care of themselves, their mental health and manage all this media pressure that there can be with the obligation of results and training, if I can contribute my little stone to building, it is with pleasure”, concluded Laure Manaudou.

“It’s like rape”: Laure Manaudou moved, she returns to the affair of the stolen photos

In 2007, Laure Manaudou found herself in the spotlight, but not really for her sporting exploits. That year, intimate photos of the swimmer were revealed on the Internet by one of her former boyfriends. A scenario for which the former swimming champion had prepared herself: “I suspected it was going to come out because, when they came out, it had been a year and a half since I sent them. I just didn’t know when it was going to come out.”she recently confided, in the podcast The Wavesproposed by the magazine Elle. At the time, Florent Manaudou's sister tried to remain dignified in public, even if a lot of things were going on in her head.

At 21, Laure Manaudou's world collapsed. “I only thought of one thing, it was: I shame my family . I try not to show everything I feel and in fact, inside, everything is crumbling (…) I was ashamed of having done that and of having been the target of that person”, she said, on the set of Cliquethis Tuesday, January 14. She even went further, comparing this terrible event to “a rape” : “It's complicated to live with because, for me, it's like rape . Today, it's trivialized because it happens a lot. But at that time, I was one of the first. I show everyone the way. If it can be of use to anyone, so much the better.”, she assured.
