Inter squandered the opportunity to move within 1 of Napoli, stopped by Bologna at 2-2 at San Siro and thus going three points behind the leaders. In the recovery of the nineteenth matchday, the Nerazzurri first overcame the Rossoblu with goals from Dumfries and Lautaro after Castro’s initial lead, but in the second half they were in turn recovered by Holm’s goal, which set the result on the same score as the match in the last season at the Meazza.
In the cold of San Siro Inzaghi, still without Calhanoglu and Mkhitaryan, confirms the formation seen in Venice for 9/11 by finding Dimarco and Thuram again from the 1st minute. It’s the first ring from the Frenchman, who volleys high from a cross from the Dumfries midfield. The Nerazzurri’s choice is to leave possession to Bologna, then trying to start again on the counterattack.
However, following an error by Zielinski, Moro recovers and shoots from distance with Sommer who somehow manages to deflect the ball onto the post. The rossoblu do better and Moro is once again the protagonist, seeing as Castro anticipates De Vrij from his right-foot volley from the edge, finding the right deflection and putting Italiano’s men ahead.
Inter’s reaction was immediate, given that after less than four minutes, taking advantage of a turnover by Odgaard, Dumfries reiterated a save by Skorupski on the net from a left-footed shot by Dimarco who had closed a rapid counterattack.
The Nerazzurri rev up their engines, Dimarco again comes close to hitting the post with Skorupski beaten, while then Lautaro doesn’t cause any major problems for the rossoblu goalkeeper first with a left-footed turn and then with a central header. As soon as the hosts slow down, however, Bologna returns, with Odgarrd’s header calling for a great reflex from Sommer on a corner.
At the end of the first half, however, Inter found the level of play to complete the comeback: Zielinski launched Dimarco in depth, a first-time cross for Lautaro who with his left foot put the Nerazzurri ahead by scoring his second league goal at San Siro this season (the first last November 3 against Venezia).
In the second half Inter still let Bologna play the game, but they continued to be dangerous. First Dimarco comes close to scoring with a free kick from the edge, then Lautaro with Skorupski who stretches out and puts it in the corner. Bologna, however, raised its head and found the equalizer, with Orsolini taking advantage of Dimarco’s failure to disengage to serve Holm, a right-foot shot deflected by Bastoni and a new equalizer. Orsolini shortly afterwards also has the ball for the new lead, but finds Sommer’s response from a tight angle.
Inzaghi (who was rather furious and was warned and will not be on the bench in the match against Empoli on Sunday evening at San Siro) tries to shake up his team by introducing Frattesi and Taremi, but the draw seems to have shaken the Nerazzurri. However, the Iranian has the good ball twice, but on both occasions, assisted by Thuram, he doesn’t reach the ball with malice. These are the last emotions, because neither of the two teams manages to have the strength for the last assault in search of the three points.
Italian: ‘It’s a pride to leave San Siro unbeaten’
“We finally managed to hold our own in injury time. We added something on the defensive line, we had to bring home the result. It’s always a source of pride to leave San Siro unbeaten, with a top-level performance too. We reach 30 points, it was our goal.” Bologna coach Vincenzo Italiano said this to Dazn after the draw against Inter.
“The involvement of many players? I work a lot on this aspect and I care just as much, I’m happy when you give space to players who respond presently. The goal conceded at the end of the first half? In injury time we weren’t able to put the ball lost by the team on ice which Inter then scored. You make a mistake like that and then it’s difficult to avoid the goal. However, the reaction in the second half was what I wanted, with few counterattacks allowed and a lot of play made, also creating a few chances.”
Inzaghi: ‘Excellent match for Inter, but there’s a bitter taste in my mouth’
“Congratulations to Bologna, we knew they would be a difficult opponent. For me the team played an excellent match, creating a lot and conceding the right amount. We were coming off a tour de force and it wasn’t easy. It’s normal for there to be a bit of bitterness in the mouth, we could have made it 3-2, we were playing against a physical team, who always took us high, it was an expensive match.” This was said by Inter coach Simone Inzaghi, interviewed by Dazn after the draw against Bologna.
“Challenge for the championship? We have to look at ourselves, we were coming off a six-game winning streak and today we drew. This is the time to do something more, we knew it would be difficult given the calendar. The protests at the end? There’s no problem, the The guys were a bit agitated, I didn’t want anyone to exaggerate. The referees can make mistakes, as it was tonight and as it was in the Super Cup, they can make mistakes like us but there is calm.”
