Yann Sommer’s Inter Milan missed the opportunity to get back on the heels of leader Naples by conceding a draw at home (2-2) against Bologna in a late match of the 19th day of the Italian Championship, Wednesday.
The reigning Italian champion, who remained on five consecutive victories in the league, consolidated his 2nd place but is three points behind Napoli, with still a game in hand.
His evening started as badly as it ended.
He was picked up cold by Bologna who opened the scoring with a 20-meter shot deflected into Yann Sommer’s goal by Santiago Castro (15th).
It only took four minutes for the Nerazzuri to react and equalize thanks to Denzel Dumfries, well placed to catch the ball diverted by the Bologna goalkeeper on a strike from Federico Dimarco.
The Italian international was once again decisive on Inter’s second goal: launched on the left wing, he delivered a perfect cross for Lautaro Martinez who, at point blank range, left no chance for Lukasz Skorupski (45th +1).
But upon returning from the locker room, Simone Inzaghi’s team lost their footing and left the ball to Bologna who increased their attacks and logically ended up equalizing thanks to Emil Holm (64th).
Despite a surge in the last quarter of an hour, the Milanese, clumsy like Mehdi Taremi alone in front of the goal (84th), did not manage to regain the advantage.
