Barça with a great Lamine Yamal slaps Betis

After its victory in the Spanish Super Cup this Sunday during the Clasico (1-5), FC Barcelona was back in its Montjuic stadium for the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey against Betis. For the occasion, despite a long trip from Saudi Arabia (where the Super Cup was being played), Hansi Flick decided to trust his managers but took advantage of this match to make some changes in certain positions. Jules Koundé, already excellent against Real Madrid, still started as did Pedri, Gavi, Lamine Yamal and Raphinha. Announced for a while at the start, Araujo was the starter and even captain while Dani Olmo and Frenkie De Jong took advantage of the slight turnover to start.

And in this match, FC Barcelona was never worried. On the contrary. As at the start of the season, Hansi Flick’s team transformed into a real steamroller, crushing everything in its path. And all this while being helped by the nugget Lamine Yamal who once again had a crazy match. Barça only needed three minutes to open the scoring in this match. Dani Olmo, in the penalty area, served Gavi who calmly adjusted Vieites with his left foot (1-0, 3rd). The first goal conceded by Vieites in a long series. After making a few saves in front of Olmo or Pedri, the Spanish goalkeeper cracked a second time after half an hour of play. Lamine Yamal, on his right side, delivered a marvelous ball with one touch to Jules Koundé who doubled. The Frenchman resumed with a powerful volley (2-0, 27th). Just before the break, on a new difference made by Lamine Yamal who had dropped his direct opponent, Koundé thought he had scored a double after a powerful tight angle shot. But the goal was canceled for an offside position (45th).

Returning from the locker room, FC Barcelona, still little worried by the training of Manuel Pellegrini, played its football. And it was again Lamine Yamal who shone and literally walked on the lawn. He even thought he would open his score this evening but his goal, on a good serve from De Jong, was canceled for a slight offside position. Immediately, on a recovery from his area, the 2024 European Champion covered the entire pitch, eliminated two defenders and arrived in front of the area. But he missed his shot which turned into a decisive pass for Raphinha who deceived poor Vieites (3-0, 59th). In agony, Betis could only note the damage.

And it didn’t stop there. A few minutes later, it was Ferran Torres who scored his goal. Dani Olmo delivered his second assist of the evening by serving the former Manchester City striker perfectly (4-0, 67th). To conclude this offensive festival, we obviously needed a goal from Lamine Yamal who was in all the right places. This time, even if he was flagged offside at the start, his goal was validated by the VAR. Launched in depth, he adjusted the opposing goalkeeper alone for the 5-0 goal (76th). At the end of the match, former Barça Vitor Roque converted a penalty to save some honor. After crushing Real Madrid this weekend, Barça found an impressive rhythm and scored another big victory. Note that in the other King’s Cup matches of the day, Leganès took out Almeria (3-2) and Getafe barely beat Pontevedra (1-0). Barça will see the quarter-finals well.
