Brian Priske keeps Dávid Hancko on the bench for the first time at Feyenoord in the eighth final of the KNVB Cup against Rijnsburgse Boys. The trainer keeps the Slovakian defender aside as a precaution.
“We have seen a lot of images, the same analysis and preparation as every match,” Priske looked ahead to ESPN shortly before the match. ‘Good team and good players. Actually they have to play at the second level. Anyone who knows football well knows that matches against lesser teams are always difficult. For us it is a matter of mentality and character of the players.’
The field at Sportpark Middenmors is not of the same quality as Feyenoord is used to, but Priske does not want to hide behind that in advance. “You know that when you come here on the third level. That is not the same turf as in De Kuip. That’s no excuse.’
Hancko misses his first minutes of the season. ‘Of course he has played a lot of games. He also had a bit of trouble with his knee during the training camp in Spain. We have a difficult program in the coming weeks. We would also like to see Facundo, he is doing very well in training. For us it is important to see him in more games to make a decision for next season.’
