“It’s a great victory for my return to Saint-Brieuc with the young players I had last year in U18”appreciated Maxime Piriou, the coach at the end of the meeting. After a balanced start to the match, the Briochins quickly opened the scoring through Ntumi who appeared alone against the visiting goalkeeper, Souchet (1-0, 8').
Redon approached the Brioch goals but without really endangering the Costarmoricans, despite the efforts of Duché and Belkebir. Ntumi again had an opportunity but he lacked control (24').
“We knew how to exploit the counterattacks”
At the start of the second half, Redon accelerated to equalize. They were very close when Belkebir appeared alone against Le Normand, the Briochin goalkeeper, but the latter slowed the ball and Barreau saved on the line (57'). A few minutes later, on a counterattack, Maxime Piriou's men made the break. Nerbard saw the goalkeeper push back his shot but Balzan followed well and allowed his team to have a two-goal lead (2-0, 63').
Redon did not give up and sought to come back to the score but came up against a well-organized Briochine defense around Enzo Barreau, the captain. On another against Ntumi escaped to the side and surprised Souchet (3-0, 90'+3). “We had a good first half. We were in a good place. We were lucky to lead quickly. The second half was more complicated with a good Redon team who put the pace to equalize and my players who were starting to get tired. We then knew how to exploit the counterattacks by scoring twice again”confides the new Briochin coach Maxime Piriou.
His counterpart from Redon was disappointed. “Saint-Brieuc opened the scoring with a largely avoidable action. We did everything to come back to the score. I am waiting for a real collective reaction from my players” admits Arnaud Chevalier, Redon's coach.
