Club and Genk open 1/2 finals first matches
Club Brugge and KRC Genk will kick off the first legs of the semi-finals of the Belgian Cup (Croky Cup) tonight (8:45 PM) in the Jan Breydel Stadium. Tomorrow (also at 8:45 PM) RSC Anderlecht will face Antwerp in the other semi-final at Lotto Park.
The quarter-finals (over one match), which were only completed last week just after a short winter break, are still fresh in our memories. Club Brugge defeated OH Leuven (3-0), Genk won in Sint-Truiden (0-4). Antwerp defeated Union Sint-Gillis (5-1) and thus had its revenge for the lost final of the previous edition. Anderlecht qualified after a 0-1 win over Beerschot.
Both Club and Genk gained confidence last weekend in the Jupiler Pro League. The Limburgers played almost an entire match with one man less against OHL after an early red card for defender Matte Smets (6.), but still won (2-0). Blauw-zwart humiliated Anderlecht on its own field with 0-3. The Purple & White therefore has something to put right against Antwerp. The Great Old took a point (1-1) in the always fiercely fought derby at Beerschot.
The return matches will follow in early February. Genk will host Club on Wednesday, February 5 (8:45 PM). Antwerp and Anderlecht will fight each other the following day (Thursday, February 6 at 8:45 PM) in the Bosuil Stadium.
-The final of the Croky Cup will take place on Thursday, May 1 (Labor Day) at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels, unless a finalist is still active in Europe at that time. The final will then move to May 14, the Pro League previously reported.
