Brad Pitt has reacted to the fact that one of his French fans was defrauded of more than 800,000 euros due to a scam that stole her identity on social networks.
Sunday January 12, the show Sept à quatre broadcast a report on TF1 devoted to Anne, the victim of a scammer who posed as actor Brad Pitt in order to extract money from him. In the end, Anne paid 830,000 euros in a few months, believing she was helping the actor pay significant medical expenses. Today, the Seven and Inglorious Basterds star responded to the affair.
In a press release relayed exclusively by Entertainment Weeklya rep for the actor said:
“It's despicable that scammers are taking advantage of the strong connections between fans and celebrities, but it's an important reminder not to respond to unsolicited online solicitations, especially from actors who do not have a presence on social networks.
The scammer first contacted the victim posing as Brad Pitt's mother, before impersonating the star herself, asking for money for expensive kidney surgery, claiming that due to his long divorce proceedings with Angelina Jolie, his bank accounts were frozen.
The replay of the report devoted to the scam has since been deleted by TF1, as explained by account
Interviewed exclusively by the Youtube channel LegendAnne gives her version of the facts:
“In terms of scammers, I have had forty times, maybe even more, moments where I didn't believe it. Very sincerely, I say each time: 'this photo is fake, it 'is fake and I can see it very well, it's a photomontage, etc.' In the show, obviously, all of this is not said because, know that the journalist stayed for two days to interview me, and he didn't remember that what should not be retained in fact, to tarnish my image and it is only with the aim of attracting an audience.
She adds: “The fake doctor told me: 'He swallowed all the pills following your message, he is in a coma, he wanted to commit suicide, etc.' so I was at fault for his actions, they blamed me, so I went through hell.”
“In this report” concludes Anne, “the only thing we're going to remember is 'Anne fell in love with a fake Brad Pitt' but, initially, I've never cheated on my husband in my life because I am, in fact, a caring woman. I am not crazy or stupid as some people claim, say or write on social networks, I just wanted to help someone (…) I was fooled, I admit. and that's why I testified. I'm not the only one in this situation, so maybe not for that amount, but in any case I was scammed, I admit it. Now you know who I am and I accept it.
