Biathlon – First victory for Vebjoern Soerum, first podium for Emilien Claude – Sports Infos – Ski

Surprise tiercé on the 20km of Ruhpolding

Continuation of the Biathlon World Cup this afternoon at the Bavarian site of Ruhpolding with a lot of people already at the stadium to follow this 20km which will prove to be totally unpredictable.

Unpredictable like the behavior, never seen before, of Johannes Boe who will simply stop after his last shot from the end, although successful, with already five minutes of penalty in his bag.

The leader of the general seems to want to give up when Emilien Jacquelin passes by and asks him what he is making. Finally, Johannes Boe leaves to finish his race without desire, at a tourist's pace, before finishing beyond 80th place, more than 8 minutes behind.

Suddenly the doors opened for everyone else, but Laegreid, Fillon Maillet, Tarjei Boe, Jacquelin, Perrot and Samuelsson, the other favorites, did not know how to take advantage of it, leaving the outsiders to take advantage.

Currently sixth overall, Vebjoern Soerum, who is not part of the Norwegian A team, will then seize his chance. He achieves his first 20/20 in the World Cup with the 11th skiing time, and this will be more than enough to achieve his first career success.

Soerum even completely crushed this 20km by winning with 52sec ahead of Emilien Claude and 57sec over Andrejs Rastorgujevs, the Latvian.

Great happiness for Emilien Claude

Aged 25, for his 34th World Cup start, the Vosges native Emilien Claude, like Vebjoern Soerum, also produced the perfect race. Without ever trembling, with confidence, he achieved 20/20 for the first time at this level.

Starting wisely, Emilien Claude will then be able to finish his 20km at a very fast pace, which allows him to maintain his incredible 2nd place, resisting the return of the fast Latvian Andrejs Rastorgujevs, and his minute penalty.

Over the moon, the Habs obtain their first big reward after years of work and two very difficult last seasons. This first career podium will do him a world of good and allow him, normally, to finally settle in for the long term.

The Swiss Niklas Hartweg who is gaining strength while showing himself to be faster and faster on skis, finishing in 4th place in this 20km, at 1min20, ahead of another surprise, the Czech Vitezslav Hornig and his 20/20.

Followed by Sebastian Samuelsson, the Finnish hopeful Otto Invenius, 20/20, and the returning Johannes Dale. We will also note Martin Ponsiluoma's very impressive skiing time, but once again the Swede missed the shot.

Fabien Claude and Eric Perrot finished tied for 12th, Antonin Guigonnat 15th, Sturla Laegreid 16th, Emilien Jacquelin 19th and Quentin Fillon-Maillet 24th.

Overall in the World Cup, Sturla Laegreid is just 48 points behind Johannes Boe, to say the least enigmatic.
