Stadium carved out of the rock and a club that “works well”: welcome to Espaly, who are preparing to face PSG

Believer or not, it is difficult not to see a divine sign in this adventure. Between Espaly-Saint-Marcel, the small town of 3,500 inhabitants, and the large one, Le Puy-en-Velay, prefecture of Haute-, two immense statues can be seen: the Saint-Joseph-de-Bon-Espoir sanctuary on one side, Notre-Dame-de- on the other. A reminder that this town in the south of Auvergne is the start of the busiest route to Santiago de Compostela in France.

A path which crosses Espaly (few pronounce the whole name) to climb to the district called Viouzou. In this old pozzolan quarry (a rock resulting from volcanic activity, formed from fragments of magma projected into the air during eruptions), the Club Espaly set up its headquarters almost half a century ago and built its current stadium in 2019.
