It's the end of a great adventure but also of a hell of a struggle. This Wednesday morning, at 7:12 a.m., the Frenchman Yoann Richomme (Paprec-Arkéa), for his very first participation, officially crossed the finish line, near Les Sables d'Olonne (Vendée). The skipper finished in second place in the tenth edition of the Vendée Globe, behind his compatriot Charlie Dalin (Macif Santé Prévoyance), who arrived the day before, 22 hours before him. Now aged 41, Richomme completed his solo circumnavigation, non-stop and without assistance, in 65 days, 18 hours, 10 minutes and 2 seconds. All aboard its Paprec Arkéa monohull launched only two years ago.
Richomme was in the lead in this Vendée Globe
Even if Richomme arrives the day after Dalin's brilliant victory, the fight between the two men will have been intense and magnificent until the end, and particularly during the journey back across the Atlantic. After getting off to a good start on November 10, Richomme was in the lead for several days, just after the Cape of Good Hope. In 48 hours, the Frenchman had managed to overcome an impressive delay of 500 miles in the Indian Ocean. This allowed him to overtake Dalin, passing Cape Horn. Towards Brazil, Charlie Dalin then got back in front to race towards victory.
