It's now official… they are forever the first footballers from a Pays d'Auge club to reach the round of 16 of the Coupe de France. By dominating Le Puy 1-0, the Divais offered themselves, in addition to the great joys of one evening, new adventures.
The match
Unlike their 32nd final against Saint-Denis de la Réunion, the match started very strongly with two split chances before Maxime Verrier, the SU Dives-Cabourg goalkeeper, came out with a left-handed tap. which will be Puy's best chance during the 90 minutes. The visitors then monopolized the ball. The winners, in the previous round in Montpellier 4-0, however, never managed to find the solution to the point that at the break, the Divais were still in the match (0-0).
In the second period, SU Dives-Cabourg managed to suffer less and even get closer to the Puy goals… and the Dives dream continued to take shape with the opening score of captain Florian Suzanne (1-0). Philippe Clément's men had done the hardest part. The last minutes were difficult, but the Divais, with almost all cramps, were able to hold on without falling back too much before the referee, after seven minutes of stoppage in play, released the 2,000 spectators present in the Heurtematte stadium .
And now ?
By winning 1-0 against Le Puy in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France, SU Dives-Cabourg gave itself the right to have new adventures: a round of 16. These will take place on February 4 or 5, 2025. The Divais already have some indications about their possible future opponents since the first matches took place this Tuesday, January 14, 2024. Thus, Marseille, who fell on penalties against Lille will not be part of the party…. no more than Monaco which lost, in the same circumstances, in Reims. Lille, Reims, Guingamp, Dives-Cabourg, Le Mans, Nice are the first to qualify. The round of 16 will continue this Wednesday, January 15, 2025, especially while waiting for the draw which will take place on Thursday evening (8 p.m.) on beINsports.
