Tozé Marreco, coach of SC Farense, liked what he saw from his team, despite the 3-1 defeat to Benfica in the Portuguese Cup.
Analysis: “The game comes down to individual moments in which Benfica were stronger, more capable and resolved. Anyone who sees three goals conceded might think we were pushed back a lot, but it wasn’t like that. We didn’t allow almost anything in the first half and neither There are a lot of chances in the second except for the goals. When you concede two goals in a row you swing and that’s what happened.”
Is the championship important? “The Cup was an absolute extra. We came here with merit, the focus is on the championship, but the conclusion remains that even against stronger teams, if we are organized, we are very strong. We have been strong and this game doesn’t change anything.”
Farense in relegation zone does not reflect capacity? “Reflect, no points were scored in the first six rounds, there was a big deficit. It’s a big recovery, but it can’t be resolved in a day. The only thing I didn’t like was that 3-1 sent us too far down. One goal and we were back in play.”
Is it important to return to São Luís? “We need our stadium and this one is different. Many people may not be aware of its real size, but the club attracts a lot of people. There are no miracle workers, we are all pulling in the same direction, we need the stadium always on our side.”
