“Bayern fan” Harres and ex-Schalke player Becker have two reasons to be happy

This is what you would call an absolute cream day. Pretty much everything worked for Holstein Kiel against Borussia Dortmund. Timo Becker and Phil Harres were in a good mood afterwards, and not just because of the important points in the table.

“We played a fantastic game today,” said Timo Becker Sky to the appearance of KSV Holstein. Personally, he was of course twice as happy about his existence as a former Schalke player. “But I’m more happy for the team,” the 27-year-old defender said straight away.

Becker: “We couldn’t have played it better”

Already at half-time the storks deservedly led 3-0 against the big favorites from Dortmund, combined with a lot of wit in front of the visitors’ goal and were well on their way to scoring three important points in the relegation battle. “We didn’t really want to make it that exciting anymore, but football just writes stories like that.”

In the course of the second half, Kiel allowed Dortmund to get as close as 2:3, but then, despite substitute captain Lewis Holtby being sent off, the final score was 4:2 shortly before the end.

“We play football exactly for games like this. It’s just great to beat teams like that and it’s an amazing day,” added Becker, who had been wearing the captain’s armband on his arm until Holtby was substituted. “We couldn’t have played it better, so I’m very happy.”

“Bayern fan” Harres: The feeling is not deceptive

Kiel’s second goalscorer and assist for the 3-0 win, Phil Harres, was “simply incredibly proud of the team” and spoke of the “team spirit” that made it happen on Tuesday evening. “We were all there for each other and ran for each other.” The deserved win against Dortmund impressively showed that Holstein Kiel has a realistic chance of surviving in this league. “If we give it our all, I have the feeling that we can hold our own against any opponent and we proved that today.”

Harres has already played ten Bundesliga games for Kiel and scored seven times. His goal against Dortmund was Harres’ third of the new year, after the 22-year-old attacker had already scored a brace in the 2-3 win in Freiburg.

Why does he score so much? “I spoke to Lewis (Holtby, d. Red.) a ritual, but I can’t say that,” Harres revealed mysteriously, without going into details. Even after repeated questions, the center forward didn’t want to speak out and referred to a later point in time when he might be able to talk more about the ” “Ritual” with Captain Holtby.

Although Harres played for BVB at the very beginning of his career and was born in Datteln, just a 28-minute drive from Dortmund, he was never a BVB fan. “I have a lot of BVB fans as friends.”

But he himself is a “Bayern fan”. Well then the victory – just like in Becker’s case – would have tasted even more pleasant. But the main thing is that Kiel is now only two points behind the relegation place.
