Update with results from other South American tennis players
The Argentine tennis player Francisco Cerúndolo beat the Kazakh Alexander Bublik on Tuesday by fast track and sealed his pass to the second round of the Australian Open, to which the Chilean Cristian Garín also qualified.
The 26-year-old from Buenos Aires, seeded number 31, won in less than two hours in three sets against his unpredictable rival, number 37 in the world, with a score of 7-6 (7/1), 6-3, 6- 2.
The excitement of the match was concentrated in the first set, decided with authority by Cerúndolo in the tiebreaker after an exchange of breaks by both players in the final games.
From the second set, after another exchange of service breaks, the Argentine imposed his winning shots against an erratic Bublik who was accumulating unforced errors.
His compatriot Facundo Díaz (N.73) also qualified for the second round, beating the Belgian Zizou Bergs (N.60) in five sets 6-7 (5/7), 6-4, 1-6, 6 -3 and 6-4.
On the other hand, the Argentine Francisco Comesaña and Camilo Ugo Carabelli also lost, against the German Daniel Altmaier and the American Learner Tien, respectively.
After two unfortunate seasons that sank him in the rankings, Chilean Cristian Garín won a Grand Slam match again by beating Croatian Borna Coric 7-5, 6-1, 6-2.
Ranked 150th in the ATP, the Chilean reached the final draw in Melbourne from the previous qualifier and in the second round he will meet the world number 4, the American Taylor Fritz.
