The kickoff of the 16th final of the Coupe de France, OM – LOSC is scheduled for 9:10 p.m. at the Marseille Vélodrome (Bouches-du-Rhône). After two consecutive draws in the league, Lille coach Bruno Genesio banged his fist on the table and called on his men to mobilize on the essential: what is happening on the pitch.

LOSC has struggled to shine in the Coupe de France for several seasons. The club continues its eliminations, sometimes in the round of 16, sometimes in the round of 16. But on an excellent run in Ligue 1 and accumulating 19 matches without defeat since the start of the season, Bruno Genesio's men could have a prestigious run in the cup.
On January 14 at 9:10 p.m., they face a big player in their title race: Olympique de Marseille. Second in Ligue 1 and with 4 victories in their last 5 matches, OM are in Olympic form. The Marseille club could put a damper on the Lille sports project, fifth in the standings.
But that was without counting on the extra-sportsman who could damage the cohesion in the LOSC locker room and prevent it from qualifying for the rest of the competition. Because if in the championship, the northerners remain undefeated, the draws follow one another. As evidenced by the 0-0 snatched away at Auxerre on January 10, 2025.
During the press conference dedicated to the match against OM, Bruno Genesio did not hesitate to bang his fist on the table, pointing out inadequacies among some of his players.
“There are players who are not at the end of their contract who perhaps want to leave, that can disturb them too. There are young players who may have requests from agents who want to work with them and which go to their heads“, he laments without expressly naming those he has in his sights. “It’s not a single situation, it’s not a single observation. But what I want is for us all to refocus on the game.“
Concerning the lack of realism on the ground, the coach nevertheless wants to be clairvoyant. “We waste opportunities to be very close to the head. (…) We could be even better with a little more.“The solution would remain in reinforcement, “in number and quality“, in the offensive sector. A situation which could be resolved during this winter transfer window.
